State Theatre Family Fun Day

The State Theatre presents the ninth annual State Theatre Family Day on Feb. 16, featuring performances of Jack Hanna’s “Into the Wild Live” at 10:30 a.m., 1 and 3:30 p.m.

Families can spend the school-day holiday enjoying dozens of performances, workshops and hands-on activities — many of which are free. The festival, which runs 10 a.m.- 4 p.m., features multiple venues: the State Theatre; George Street Playhouse; Crossroads Theatre; United Methodist Church; and the popular Hub City Big Top, a heated tent set up in front of the State Theatre.

Crossroads Theatre features free performances by Alborada Spanish Theater in “Hispanic Tapas” at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., storyteller Lisa Garwood with “Treasured Tales from Around the World” at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and “Drum Circle” featuring Joy of Drumming with Dorothy Sikora at 12:15 p.m.

The Hub City Big Top, open 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m., highlights costumed characters, balloon animals and face painting, games, sand art, sweets and snacks, DJ music provided by Magic 98.3 and ticket giveaways.

Free, hands-on workshops will take place throughout the day at Crossroads, including a “Frozen” ballet workshop at 11 a.m., Broadway jazz dance workshop at noon, and a “Hand-in-Hand” dance workshop with American Repertory Ballet at 2 p.m. A sing-along with Big Jeff will be held at the United Methodist Church at 11 a.m., 12:30 and 2 p.m. Free crafts, including paper-bag animal puppets and tie-dye butterflies, will be available in the Crossroads Community Room. A photo booth and a coloring station will be located in the second-floor lobby of the State Theatre.
