HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Sunday blaze leaves house uninhabitable

On Sunday at 4:07 p.m., Hopewell Township police, along with the Hopewell Fire Department, went to a Cotswald Lane address to investigate a report of a structure fire.
Cotswald Lane is in the Nelson Ridge neighborhood, located off of Cherry Valley Road in Hopewell Township.
The fire, which left the residence uninhabitable, was called in by a neighbor, who noticed flames coming from the roof of the two-story house, according to township police Lt. William H. Springer.
A second neighbor alerted the homeowner, who was on the first floor of the residence, to the fire on the roof. The homeowner, who was home alone, was able to evacuate the residence to safety.

There were no reported injuries at the scene.
While the fire appears to be accidental in nature, this incident remains under investigation by Hopewell Township Detective Michael Sherman, Hopewell Valley Emergency Services Specialist Ashley Coble and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
