NEW HOPE: Police report phone scam, theft from safe

New Hope police arrested Seth Payne, 30, of New Hope and charged him with terroristic threats, theft of services, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness after an incident at 11 p.m. Jan. 17 in a West Bridge Street parking lot.
Mr. Payne was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Mark Douple and was sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
In other reports from New Hope police:
— Police charged Kenneth Ciarlone, 67, of Southampton, Pennsylvania, at 1:44 a.m. Jan. 16 for driving under the influence of alcohol after he was allegedly seen driving in an unlawful manner in the area of Riverwoods Drive and South Main Street.
— Police charged Joseph Sobatka Jr., 29, of Warwick, Pennsylvania, on Jan. 13 with access device fraud and theft by deception following an investigation into an incident that took place between Feb. 27, 2013, and March 14, 2014.
— A resident of Eden Roc, Village 2, reported to police Jan. 3 that, at some time after mid-October, someone had entered her home and had removed about $14,000 from a safe. There was no evidence of forced entry to the residence.
— An employee of a West Bridge Street business reported to police at 5:35 p.m. Jan. 2 that he had been the victim of a fraud. She said paid in excess of $900, via Moneypak cards, to an individual who phoned the business, and identified himself as an employee of a public utility.
The individual claimed that, unless the money was paid within 20 minutes, a utility to the business would be disconnected. When another employee later phoned the utility, he was advised that the phone call had been a scam.
— The owner of a West Bridge Street business reported to police at 9:34 a.m. Christmas eve, that, at some time during the overnight hours, two decorated Christmas trees, each two feet in height and decorated with lights and ribbons, had been removed from in front of the store.
Lambertville Police
— Elizabeth Mattaliano, 53, of New Hope was arrested on Feb. 17 for a pending warrant.
While on patrol, Lambertville Police Detective Michael Miloszar conducted a random plate inquire of Mattaliano’s vehicle registration at 5:35 p.m. following a motor vehicle stop in the area of North Franklin Street and Grants Alley.
The response was that Ms. Mattaliano had a $340 warrant issued by the Lambertville Municipal Court. Ms. Mattaliano was subsequently arrested and also issued a summons for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
She was released with a pending court date.
