Members of Greater Media Newspapers’ advertising, editorial, photography and production staffs scooped up 16 awards in the New Jersey Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest.
“We are blessed with an exceptional and dedicated staff,” Greater Media Newspapers General Manager and Publisher Ben Cannizzaro said. “I am extremely pleased with the well-deserved recognition from the New Jersey Press Association.”
Staff Photographer Eric Sucar won two first-place awards and two second-place awards in the 2014 contest. Winners were announced Feb. 10.
“I am proud to work with such a talented group of professionals who earned these awards with their exceptional efforts,” Executive Editor Donna Kenyon said.
Reporter Jessica D’Amico won first place in the Business and Economic Writing category for a story on an uptick in the real estate market, as well as second place in Special Subject Writing for a story on domestic violence.
Reporter Jeremy Grossman took first place in Special Subject Writing for a story about interfaith families and how they celebrate religious holidays.
Reporter Adam Uzialko won second place in Coverage of Crime, Police, Courts for a series of stories about home invasions in central New Jersey.
Reporter Kenny Walter took third place in the Responsible Journalism – Enterprise category for a story on taxpayers sharing the burden.
Former Greater Media reporter Jack Murtha took first place in Responsible Journalism – Enterprise reporting for a series on people with autism.
Greater Media Advertising and Production Department personnel who won awards in the NJPA contest include Laurel Lee and Joan Fruchter for Best Ad for Professional and Technology Services – Color.
Susan Lalanas and Diane Avery won first place for Best Classified Recruitment/ Miscellaneous Display Ad.
Anthony Naturale and Diane Avery won third place for Best Restaurant/Entertainment Ad – Color.
Maryann Karpel and Diane Avery won first place for Best Advertising Campaign – Small Space.
Advertising Director Kate Rochelle and Diane Avery won second place for Best Newspaper Promotion or House Ad.
