Resident facing weapons charges

JACKSON — A Jackson resident is facing multiple charges after allegedly firing a handgun from the front porch of his Lexington Court home.

Jackson Police Sgt. Christopher Parise said numerous calls from residents of Lexington Court were received by police just after 2 p.m. Feb. 7. The residents told police they saw a man firing a handgun from his porch.

Parise said when officers arrived at the man’s residence they found bullet casings on the ground. The man had already gone back into the house.

The officers attempted to contact the man, whom police identified as Clifton Hattett, 40, but were unable to do so, according to Parise. At that point the officers decided to enter the home, where they found Hattett, another male and two children.

Inside the home, the officers located an air-powered pellet gun that had been made to resemble a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun and an Ekol 9mm caliber handgun that could only fire blank rounds.

Police said Hattett allegedly used the Ekol handgun in the reported incident.

Parise said officers Louis Notare, Kevin Chesney, Shane Davis, Joseph Candido, Michael Kelly, William Simon, William Campbell, Stephen Cilento and Lawrence Logan and Special Class II Officer Derek Thomason responded to the incident and assisted in the investigation.

Hattett was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, possession of a controlled dangerous substance believed to be marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
