– Corpus Christi to host St. Patrick’s dinner

Corpus Christi will hold a St. Patrick’s Day dinner dance from 6 to 10:30 p.m. March 15 in the church hall, 100 James St., South River.

Dinner includes corned beef and cabbage, boiled potatoes, glazed carrots, coffee and dessert.

DJ Tony Verdun will provide music.

Tickets are $20 per person; a table of six costs $100. Tickets must be purchased in advance by March 12 by calling the parish office at 732-254-1800. No tickets will be sold at the door.

– Designer Bag Bingo to benefit pet rescue

New Beginnings Animal Rescue will host a “Luck o’ the Irish” Designer Bag Bingo March 13 at the Sayreville Senior Center, 423 Main St., Sayreville. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m., and calling will start at 7:30 p.m.

The cost is $30 per ticket, which includes three bingo cards for 10 games, a door prize ticket and coffee or tea. Food and beverages will be available for purchase, though outside food is welcome. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. 

Tickets may be purchased in advance at New Beginnings Animal Rescue, 706-R Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, during hours of operation or through PayPal on the rescue’s Facebook page.

– Monmouth Players to present ‘Godspell’

The Monmouth Players will present John Michael Tebelak’s “Godspell” at 8:15 p.m. March 13, 14, 20 and 21, and 2 p.m. March 15 and 22 at the Navesink Arts Center, 149 Monmouth Ave., Atlantic Highlands.

Featuring music and new lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, the musical tells the story of Jesus Christ and his messages of kindness, tolerance and love.

– County Republicans seek candidates

The Middlesex County Republican Organization (MCRO) invites all county residents who are interested in becoming Republican candidates in the upcoming primary election on June 2 to schedule an appearance at the candidate screening committee meeting on March 11 and the subsequent county convention on March 21.

Candidates will be screened for the state general assembly, county clerk, county freeholder or local municipal office.

– Wetland hike slated at Cheesequake Park

A guided hike through the trails at Cheesequake Park, Old Bridge, is set to begin at 1 p.m. March 8 at the park’s Nature Center. Participants will look for migratory birds and fish.

– Community yard sale scheduled for March 7

Lighthouse Christian Fellowship will hold a community bazaar and indoor yard sale in the John Deegan Hall, 100 Hardenburg Lane, East Brunswick 10 a.m.-4 p.m. March 7.

– Talk to shed light on LBI, superstorm Sandy

The Sayreville Historical Society will hold its next meeting 7 p.m. March 12 at the Sayreville Senior Center, 423 Main St.

Scott Mazzella will present a free public lecture titled “Surviving Sandy: Long Beach Island (LBI) and the Greatest Storm of the Jersey Shore.”

– Parish to hold gift auction on March 8

Divine Mercy Parish will hold its annual gift auction on March 8 in the Holy Family Parish Center, 213 Pershing Ave., Carteret. Snow date is March 15.

Doors open at 11:30 a.m. The first number will be called at 2 p.m. There will also be refreshments and a 50/50 drawing. Admission is $10 per person, age 18 and older.

– Library to host talk on controlling clutter

Bestselling author and organizing specialist Jamie Novak will lead an evening of de-cluttering tips at 7 p.m. March 12 at the South River Public Library, 55 Appleby Ave., South River.

Novak will present “Keep This, Toss That,” a program based on her latest book of the same name.

– Programs to explore spring celebrations

The Folklife Program for New Jersey and the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission will present several upcoming events showcasing how various cultures celebrate spring. The three new offerings, which will feature traditions from the Philippines, Ireland and Ukraine, will take place at the historic Indian Queen Tavern at East Jersey Olde Towne Village, Johnson Park, Piscataway.

A program titled “Palaspas: Traditional Filipino Palm Weaving Workshop” is set for 2 p.m. March 7. Palaspas are palm fronds woven into intricate designs created to honor Palm Sunday. Admission is free of charge; registration is required.

“Spring Celebration: A Celtic Music Journey with Heather Mulvey” will be presented at 2 p.m. March 22. A New Jersey native, Mulvey is an acoustic guitarist who shares her Irish heritage through song and story. Admission is free of charge. All are welcome to attend. Audience participation is encouraged.

“Pysanky: A Traditional Ukrainian Egg Decorating Workshop” will be offered in two sessions, 10 a.m.-noon and 1:30-3:30 p.m., March 28. Early registration is required; a $15 materials fee will guarantee admission. The nonrefundable fee is payable by check or money order. Cancellations must be made in advance.
