– Concert to celebrate 50th anniversary

RED BANK — The Monmouth Symphony will host a celebration of the Monmouth Conservatory of Music’s 50th anniversary at 3 p.m. March 22 at the Count Basie Theatre, 99 Monmouth St., Red Bank.

Led by Music Director Roy Gussman, the Monmouth Symphony will present the world premiere of a symphony by Gilman Collier.

In observance of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s 175th birthday, the orchestra will also perform the popular “Capriccio Italien.”

The current executive director of the Monmouth Conservatory, Vladislav Kovalsky, will perform Tchaikovsky’s “Piano Concerto No. 1.”

– Garden club to meet March 26

The Oceanport Garden Club will meet 10 a.m. March 26 at the recreation building at Blackberry Bay Park on Port Au Peck Avenue, Oceanport.

The meeting will begin with a floral design demonstration by Helen Peaff at 10 a.m. At 10:30 a.m., the business portion of the meeting will commence.

The floral design theme in March is “Famous People who are Jerseyites.” The design can be a personal choice, and accessories can be used to interpret the theme.

Following a bag lunch, the club will make spring floral arrangements for delivery to the senior residents at Oceanport Gardens.

– Scholarships available to high school students

New Jersey First Lady Mary Pat Christie has announced the third annual Spirit of a Hero Scholarship for students graduating from high school. The $5,000 scholarships come from the Heart of a Hero program for military veterans.

To be considered for the scholarship, candidates must demonstrate commitment to volunteerism and community contribution; be a New Jersey resident and U.S. citizen; submit a high school transcript and letter of recommendation from a current teacher or advisor; be in good academic standing with their secondary school; and enroll as a student at an accredited college/university or a vocational training school in the 2015-16 school year (fall or spring semester).

Application forms are available at newjerseyheroes.org or can be mailed to  NJ Heroes, P.O. Box 95, Mendham, NJ 07945-0095. The application deadline is 5 p.m. March 20.

– Casino Night to fund program for youths

LITTLE SILVER — The Red Bank Regional (RBR) SOURCE Foundation will hold its fifth annual Casino Night from 7-11 p.m. on Saturday, March 21, at the Salt Creek Grille restaurant, 4 Bingham Ave., Rumson.

Proceeds will benefit The SOURCE, RBR’s school-based youth services program.

The SOURCE offers free services to students and their families, such as individual, group and family counseling and preventative medical and dental care, and provides academic support, scholarships and opportunities to experience recreational and cultural events.

The event will feature a buffet dinner, complimentary soda, a cash bar, $50 in casino chips, a 50/50 drawing and entertainment.
