A 32-year-old Manalapan resident reported the theft of her purse, containing $200 in cash, a pair of glasses and personal papers while she was shopping at Sears at 5:54 p.m. March 12. She put her purse down while she was trying on a jacket and when she turned to look for her purse, it was missing.
A 17-year-old Hamilton Township girl was charged with shoplifting for taking an assortment of cosmetics, valued at $1,963.85, from Sephora at the Quaker Bridge Mall at 7:23 p.m. March 12. A store loss prevention officer saw her allegedly concealing the items in a handbag at the rear of the store. She was released to a guardian’s custody.
Two suspected shoplifters escaped with about $650 worth of toys from the Toys R Us store on Brunswick Pike at 8:04 p.m. March 12. The male shoplifter was observed with a shopping cart full of toys, including Legos, near the store entrance. The female shoplifter was observed carrying some items. Store employees followed the suspected shoplifters out of the store and into the parking lot. They had already begun to load items into their car. One of the employees grabbed the shopping cart, which still contained some toys valued at about $600. The suspects got into the car and left the scene
William Rodriguez, Jr. 28, of Queens, N.Y., was charged with shoplifting for taking a suitcase and an assortment of Izod Lacoste polo shirts, valued a combined $6,550, from Macy’s at the Quaker Bridge Mall at 9:41 p.m. March 12. He was observed selecting a suitcase and then hiding it in the store. He went to the Izod Lacoste department, scooped up numerous piles of shirts and concealed them in the suitcase. He was apprehended in the parking lot outside the store as he was attempting to put the items in the car he was driving. He was released on a summons.
Jose Correa, 34, of Merritt Drive, was charged with attempted burglary for trying to open a trailer that was parked at a Princeton Pike residence at 3:22 a.m. March 13. The victim heard him trying to open the trailer, which contained tools. Police were called and found Mr. Correa in the immediate area.
Tamarya Haynes, 23, of Hamilton Township, was charged with driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to maintain her lane, careless driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, failure to exhibit documents, and being an uninsured motorist after she fell asleep behind the wheel and the car struck a commercial building in the 200 block of Lawrence Road at 2:53 a.m. March 14. The building was deemed to be sound by Construction Official Anthony Cermele.
John Kollie, 32, of Trenton, was charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence in a school zone, driving while his license was suspended, reckless driving, failure to maintain his lane, improper passing and having suspended motor vehicle registration at 11:30 p.m. March 14. A motorist called police to report that the car driven by Mr. Kollie had nearly struck his car on Route 206 at Gordon Avenue. Mr. Kollie continued to drive south on Route 206, nearly striking a police car that was traveling north on Route 206. The police officer turned around and stopped Mr. Kollie near Notre Dame High School.
Anthony Brown, 19, of Trenton, was charged with being an unlicensed driver and hindering apprehension for giving a false name to police after he was stopped on the Trenton Freeway at 12:22 p.m. March 15 after police were notified of a man who was driving aggressively.
An unknown shoplifter took an assortment of flannel shirts, valued at a combined $1,180.60, from the American Eagle Outfitters store at the Quaker Bridge Mall between 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. March 15.
A burglar stole a specialized Stump Jumper mountain bike, valued at $10,000, from Knapp’s Cyclery on Princeton Avenue at 10:58 p.m. March 15. The burglar alarm at the bicycle store was activated and when police arrived, it was discovered that a rock had been used to break a front door windowpane to gain entry into the store.
