– Change of date for St. Pat’s Day Parade

The South Amboy St. Patrick’s Day Parade has been rescheduled to March 22. Line up is planned for noon. Step off will be at 1:30 p.m.

The parade, led by the Col. D.B. Kelly Pipes and Drums, will begin at the intersection of South Pine and Bordentown avenues, continue down Bordentown, turn onto Stevens Avenue, continue to Main Street, and conclude at the reviewing stand on Broadway.

South Amboy businessman and community leader Hugh Rone will serve as this year’s grand marshal. Additional parade honorees include Phyllis Stratton, Sen. Peter Barnes Jr. (D-Middlesex), WCTC-AM Radio host Burt Baron, the Rev. Dennis Weezorak and the Rev. Stanley Gromadzki.

– Church offers services, recitals during Lent

United Methodist Church, 47 North Main St., Milltown, will hold Lenten services and recitals at noon on March 18 and 25.

A brief service will be followed by a 30-minute organ recital.

A bag lunch will be provided for all in attendance.

– Easter babkas available for purchase

Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Catholic Church, Whitehead Avenue, South River, is taking orders for Easter babkas.

Cheese, chocolate, cinnamon crumb, prune, poppy, raspberry, apricot and raisin babkas cost $10.25 each. Raspberry/cheese, apricot/cheese and chocolate/cheese varieties are available at a cost of $10.75 each.

– Brandeis panel sets hour of entertainment

The Brandeis National Committee will present a program titled “That’s Entertainment” 1 p.m. March 31 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

Singer, storyteller, musician and songwriter Kenny Cunningham will offer an hour of entertainment. Cunningham recently was on tour in London, France and the Caribbean.

The committee’s March Social Justice Collection will aid Jewish Family Services. Guests are asked to bring Passover foods packaged in nonglass containers.

– Fitness, meditation classes to continue

A new season of fitness and meditation sessions are planned at the Columbian Club, Knights of Columbus Council No. 426, 308 Fourth St., South Amboy.

Tabata interval-training classes are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays beginning March 24. Participants should bring a mat and a set of light weights. Fee is $55 for seven sessions.

Zumba classes will be conducted 7:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning March 26. Cost is $55 for seven sessions.

“Meditation and Journey” classes are set for 7-8:15 p.m. starting March 30. Cost is $20 for adults, $15 for teens.

A portion of the proceeds from all classes will benefit the Knights.

– Blue Trail hike set at Cheesequake Park

A guided hike along the Blue Trail at Cheesequake State Park, Old Bridge, will begin at 1 p.m. March 22.

Participants should meet at the park’s Nature Center. The event is open to individuals ages 9 and up.

– Girl Scouts to hold workshop at library

Girl Scout Troop 81167 will conduct a workshop 2-4 p.m. March 22 and 29 at the East Brunswick Public Library, 2 Jean Walling Civic Center.

The Girl Scouts will discuss food, beauty, tolerance and science.

There will also be food tastings, activities and handouts available.

– Peruvian entertainer sets classes in Monroe

Hector Morales, a Peruvian drummer and entertainer, will offer two upcoming community-education classes as part of an effort sponsored by the Monroe Township Arts Commission and the Monroe Township Board of Education Community Education Program.

“A Journey Through the World of Percussion” is set for 6:30-8 p.m. March 26 at Monroe Township High School, 200 Schoolhouse Road. The concert/workshop will feature Morales and his group, The Afro-Peruvian Ensemble. Audience members of all ages will have the opportunity to interact with the band in song and dance. Registration fee is $8.

“Songwriting Today” is set for 7-9:30 p.m. March 31 at the high school. Morales will provide techniques to get started writing songs using the program GarageBand and more conventional instruments such as the guitar and piano. Musical experience is not necessary. All ages are welcome. Fee is $8.

– Church to sponsor Fish and Chicken Fry

The First Presbyterian Church of Sayreville will hold its annual Fish and Chicken Fry 5-7 p.m. March 20. Takeouts will be available beginning at 5 p.m. Dining-room seating is set for 5:30-7 p.m.

Tickets cost $13 in advance; limited tickets will be available at the door at a cost of $15 each. Chicken is available by advance order only.

– Library to celebrate N.J. Makers Day

New Jersey Makers Day, a statewide celebration of the “do-it-yourself,” will take place 11 a.m.-4 p.m. March 21 at the Monroe Township Public Library, 4 Municipal Plaza, Monroe.

The program showcases hands-on demonstrations and exhibitors for all ages, including soldering, upholstery, embroidery, woodshop, rug hooking, ceramics and wine making.

Types of makers needed include those dealing with electronics, science, robotics, crafting, textiles, music, technology, artists and educators. All ages are welcome to apply.

– Parents Night Out planned at YMCA

The South Amboy YMCA, 200 John T. O’Leary Blvd., will sponsor its Parents Night Out 6:30-9:30 p.m. March 27.

Children ages 4-12 are invited to eat a pizza dinner, play games, do arts and crafts and watch a movie while their parents get a break from the childcare routine. Registration is required 48 hours in advance. Children must be toilet trained.

– 4-H council to host Bunnies Breakfast

The Middlesex County 4-H Junior Council will present its annual Breakfast With the Bunnies March 28 at the Middlesex County 4-H Youth Center, 645 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.

There will be two sessions for breakfast and activities, 9-10 a.m. and 10:30-11:30 a.m. Children ages 2-8 and their parents are invited to participate.

The event will feature a pancake breakfast, an egg hunt (youngsters should bring their own baskets), photos with the bunnies, a petting zoo, face painting and other children’s activities.

Tickets are required. Cost is $8 for ages 4 and up, $6 for ages 3 and under. Proceeds will go to support 4-H Junior Council community-service projects.

– Lenten Fish Dinners continue at St. Mary’s

St. Mary of Ostrabrama Church, 30 Jackson St., South River, is sponsoring its annual Lenten Fish Dinners 5-7 p.m. Fridays through March 27 in St. Mary’s Parish Center. Takeouts will be available beginning at 4 p.m.

Dinners cost $12 for adults, $5 for children under age 12.

Tickets are on sale at the door and in the parish center during office hours.

– ‘Little Mermaid Jr.’ on tap at arts center

The Hammarskjold Middle School Drama Club will present “The Little Mermaid Jr.” 7 p.m. March 24 and 25 in the East Brunswick Performing Arts Center at the school, 200 Rues Lane.

The play tells the story of a young mermaid who must sacrifice to explore the world above the ocean and join the man of her dreams.

– ‘Fresh, the Movie’ to be shown at library

The East Brunswick Environmental Commission will sponsor a screening of “Fresh, the Movie” 6:30-8:30 p.m. March 26 at the East Brunswick Public Library, Jean Walling Civic Center.

Fresh began as a grassroots effort for a grassroots movement and advocates for healthier, more sustainable food. The film aims to raise awareness and connect people to solutions in their community.

– Corned Beef Dinner scheduled at church

The Women at the Well of Trinity Presbyterian Church, 367 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, will sponsor its Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner 4:30-7 p.m. March 21 in the church hall.

Dinner will include corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Irish soda bread, beverages and homemade desserts. Takeouts will be available.

Tickets, which are offered in advance or at the door, cost $12 for adults, $5 for children ages 4-12; youngsters age 3 and under will be admitted free of charge.

– Pancake Breakfast to aid Lions projects

The Sayreville Lions Club will hold its semiannual Pancake Breakfast 8 a.m.-noon March 29 at Sayreville War Memorial High School, 800 Washington Road.
