Suspect sought in motorcycle theft

JACKSON — A recent high-speed incident on Jackson’s streets has left detectives asking the public for any information regarding a motorcycle theft or an unknown individual seen riding with reckless abandon by police.

Police said the incident took place just after 3:30 p.m. March 17 when Officer James Reynolds was responding to an emergency first aid call.

Reynolds was traveling southbound on Don Connor Boulevard with his police vehicle’s lights and siren activated when he allegedly witnessed a motorcyclist on a gray 2011 Yamaha speed up and disregard a stop sign at the Bowman Road intersection.

Police said the motorcyclist, who was described as wearing a black jacket and a black helmet, was traveling in the same direction as Reynolds at speeds in excess of 80 mph.

Police said the motorcyclist passed several vehicles in a no passing zone and nearly collided with a utility vehicle.

Reynolds notified headquarters and reported that the motorcyclist had turned left onto East Veterans Highway, traveling westbound at a high rate of speed. Reynolds turned right at East Veterans Highway and continued toward the first aid call.

Other officers responded and were notified of a motorcycle crash on East Veterans Highway near Conselina Farms.

Police said it was later reported that the motorcyclist dropped the motorcycle before pushing it behind a structure at the farm. Witnesses reported seeing the rider walk off toward a wooded area near the property.

The motorcycle was recovered by police and impounded. Additional items found on the side of the road were also recovered as evidence.

Police said the motorcyclist was described as a white male wearing a white shirt and what appeared to be dark colored jeans.

A K-9 unit from the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department attempted to track the rider, but ultimately led officers to an area where police believe the motorcyclist was picked up by another person.

At about 7:50 p.m. the registered owner of the motorcycle, a Jackson resident, reported the vehicle had been stolen from his home on Tuscany Drive. According to police, the owner said he left the motorcycle in the driveway with the keys still in it.

Anyone with information about the motorcyclist is being asked to contact police at 732-928-1111.
