LONG BRANCH — The Jersey Shore Running Club will hold its 24th Celtic Tribute 5K run at 11 a.m. on April 4 at the Great Lawn near McKinley Avenue in Long Branch. The event is held in memory of Long Branch’s fallen police officers, including patrolmen Herman Emmons and William Richards and Sergeant Patrick King.
Proceeds will benefit the Long Branch PBA Local 10’s Scholarship Fund in Memory of Our Fallen Officers and Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures (FACES).
The 5K course is completely flat and fast. All paces are welcome, including walkers. Children’s races will be held on the Great Lawn following the 5K event at 11:45 a.m. Post-race refreshments will be available. There will also be an awards ceremony, raffles and grand prize drawing. A free pasta party will be held at the Celtic Cottage at 608 Second Ave.
Area police departments and law enforcement groups are encouraged to compete. Awards will be presented to the first five law-enforcement finishers, both male and female; to the PBA local and law enforcement agency with the most participants; and to the PBA that traveled the longest distance.
The entry fee is $22 for adults and $8 for children 12 and under by March 28. After that date, the fee is $25 for adults and $10 for children. Pre-race packet pickup and registration will be held from 5:30-7 p.m. April 3 at the Celtic Cottage. T-shirts will be given to pre-registering participants. Registration on day of race begins 9:30 a.m.
