EAST BRUNSWICK — A local Boy Scout received his Eagle Scout award after rejuvenating a township bocce ball court.
As a member of Troop 223 through the East Brunswick VFW, Tom Berzok earned 22 merit badges and served in troop leadership positions. He also successfully planned, secured funding, acquired materials and recruited volunteers to provide labor for his Eagle Scout community service project.
For his project, the 18-yearold restored and resurfaced the bocce ball court at the East Brunswick Senior Center, transforming the area from its previously unusable condition into a fully functional court.
“It was really rewarding to build a project that I know people will use. Bocce ball is one of the seniors’ favorite games to play, and I can’t wait to see everyone out there come springtime enjoying the court,” Berzok said.
The East Brunswick resident officially received his Eagle Award at a Court of Honor on March 29 at the East Brunswick Elks.
Berzok is currently a senior at East Brunswick High School and plans to attend Clark University in Worcester, Massachusetts, in the fall. He will study finance.
