Day of remembrance to reflect on Holocaust

Congregation B’nai Israel (CBI) will commemorate Yom HaShoah or Holocaust Remembrance Day at 10:30 a.m. April 19 at 171 Ridge Road, Rumson. A short service commemorating the day will be conducted by Rabbi Jeff Sultar and Cantor Dov Goldberg.

The program will be presented by members of the Rabbi Jack M. Rosoff Hebrew High School and include a dramatized reading of selections from Simon Wiesenthal’s book “The Sunflower.”

Wiesenthal, a survivor of the Nazi death camps, dedicated his life to documenting the crimes of the Holocaust and to hunting down the perpetrators. In “The Sunflower,” he recalls the day he was taken from his Nazi concentration camp work detail to the bedside of a dying member of the SS unit. Haunted by the crimes in which he had participated, the soldier wanted to confess to and obtain forgiveness from a Jew. Wiesenthal reacted, but years later wondered if he had made the right choice.

The program is free and open to people of all faiths. For more information, contact CBI Director Emilie Kovit-Meyer at 732- 842-1800, ext. 203 or emilie.kovitmeyer@cbirumson.org.
