Police seek suspect in Edison bank robbery

EDISON — The robbery of the Magyar Bank on Inman Avenue last week represented the township’s second bank heist in a month.

At 2:50 p.m. March 31, a black male entered the bank and presented a teller with a note demanding money and stating that he had a weapon, police said. The suspect then left the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, fleeing in an unknown direction.

He is described as having a dark complexion and stocky build, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 10 inches tall and in his mid-30s or 40s. He was further described as having short hair, being unshaven and wearing a navy blue baseball cap with an unknown logo on the front, navy blue work pants, navy blue jacket with a gray collar and red and silver reflective piping around the biceps, and black work boots, according to police.

Police said he did not show a weapon during the robbery.

A similar bank robbery was reported on March 17 at 4:30 p.m. at the TD Bank, 2064 Oak Tree Road, Edison.
