SEA BRIGHT — Preseason beach badge sales are up by almost double this year.
“We have had a great year [with presales],” said Candace Mitchell, administrative assistant at Borough Hall.
Since superstorm Sandy, the beach badge presales, which occur between December through March, have kept on rising.
In 2013, the borough sold 1,200 beach badges, and 1,500 badges were sold in 2014. This year, 2,400 have been sold, according to Mitchell.
She said the sales are increasing because the town is “recovering.”
“More merchants are coming into town, and people are just coming back,” Mitchell said.
Marianne McKenzie Morse said the increase in sales was a surprise this year.
“We may have publicized [the presale] more,” she said. “People know that the badges are half-price ($50) through March 31.”
The summer season — Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day — beachbadge season fees are $100, or $8 for a daily pass that includes weekends. Season badges for senior citizens (age 65 or older) and persons with disabilities are $35 each.
Beach badges and lockers are available for purchase at Borough Hall, 1167 Ocean Ave., 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays through May 22. Thereafter, beach badges and lockers can be paid for at the Sea Bright Public Beach Office.
