Second suspect charged in Jackson restaurant murder

Daniele Romeodisantillo Daniele Romeodisantillo JACKSON — A second suspect in the shooting death of Jackson resident Peyman Sanandaji turned himself in to the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office one week after the killing occurred.

According to a press release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Jackson Police Department, Daniele G. Romeodisantillo, 27, of Manalapan, surrendered just after 6 p.m. April 17.

Romeodisantillo was charged with murder, conspiracy to commit murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. His bail was set at $1 million, cash only, and he was placed in the Ocean County Jail, Toms River.

Authorities said detectives had enough evidence to link Romeodisantillo to the crime by the time he surrendered.

According to Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Al Della Fave, the shooting took place just before 11 p.m. April 9 at the Casanova Ristorante in Romeo’s Plaza, South New Prospect and Bennetts Mills roads, Jackson.

On April 10, authorities arrested Hector Calderon, 47, at his home on South Street, Freehold Borough. Calderon was charged with murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Calderon’s bail was set at $1 million and he was placed in the Ocean County Jail.

Although Della Fave said the Casanova Ristorante had been closed for some time, he could not comment on why the three men were at the shuttered restaurant at the time of the shooting.

Officials said Jackson police officers responded to the scene after receiving a report of an injured employee.

Sanandaji, however, was not an employee of the Casanova Ristorante or of a nearby pizza shop, Della Fave said.

By the time police arrived at the restaurant, Sanandaji, 34, had already died from multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities said the investigation revealed that Sanandaji was allegedly shot during an altercation, although the reason behind that altercation has yet to be determined.

Law enforcement officials allege that Romeodisantillo was at the restaurant with Calderon when the shooting took place.
