Martial arts gives students a non-quitting spirit. The most important aspect of martial arts students’ training is probably the discipline that is imparted upon them. The Tiger Schulmann’s martial arts program teaches modern self-defense techniques and keeps the disciplined atmosphere of traditional karate. In every martial arts class, children are taught that through hard work they can accomplish anything. In the beginning most students have little to no self-discipline. It is the instructor’s job to be that outward source of discipline that they need. The atmosphere in the class is one of discipline, yet it is still fun and exciting. Each day of martial arts training brings the student closer to being disciplined on their own.Tiger Schulmann’s staff runs the classes at a fast pace, giving children as little time to lose focus as possible. The curriculum is not only fun, it is mentally engaging, teaching the children to stay on task. Children learn that martial arts discipline will allow them to accomplish more in less time no matter what activity they are engaged in. Everything that is done in every Tiger Schulmann’s martial arts class is done in a disciplined manner to ensure the safety of all students as well. Since the martial arts classes are taught in this disciplined manner, all of the students internalize the discipline. This newfound self-discipline helps them to achieve building their confidence in all areas of life. The children will grow to be successful leaders among their peers. Tiger Schulmann’s of East Brunswick is located at 510 Route 18 north. For more information, call 732-249-2467 or visit www.eastbrunswickmma.com.

Tots & Blocks Nursery School and Day Camp was established in 1970 and is happy to report that they are now getting children of happy former students. The plan for the summer is to keep the excitement of learning and discovering ongoing by offering a Science and Museum Art Appreciation Camp for children ages 2 1/4 to 8 years of age.As an example, a unit on light and sound will offer children the opportunity to have hands on experiences while discovering. There will be a physical project and a write-up for the family so they can expand the concept at home if they wish. One or two major works from artists such Picasso or Van Gogh will be analyzed by each camp group.Artistic techniques (use of light, textured surfaces, non-essential secondary characters and details will be pointed out and questioned. (If you change Mona Lisa’s smile and give her bright clothes, everything changes.)
