Driver suffers severe burns after tanker truck catches fire near Turnpike Exit 11

A tanker truck traveling southbound caught on fire on the New Jersey Turnpike on the ramp to Interchange 11 shortly before 2 p.m. May 5.

According to State Police officials, the interchange, tolls and ramp have been closed and the Garden State Parkway has been closed.

The driver suffered severe burns and is out of the vehicle. He was to be Medevaced to a hospital, state police said.

It was believed the tanker was carrying gasoline. The incident is still under investigation. Southbound car and truck lanes remain closed near Turnnpike Interchange 11.
