MILLSTONE — The Millstone PTO and PTSA are working hard to create the magic of a rainbow.

The parent-teacher organizations are joining together to host a communitywide Color-A-Thon to benefit the Millstone Township K-8 School District on May 30.

The event will begin at the Millstone Township Middle School, 5 Dawson Court. All registrants will receive a Color-A-Thon T-shirt and a color dye pack. Registration will be held on May 30 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The cost for on-site registration is $40 per adult and $25 per student.

PTSA Co-President Kristin Morris said early registration prices will be less expensive, and students will be granted free admission if they have $30 in pledges. The early registration price for adults is $30.

“I feel this is a new and exciting way to come together as a family and community to support our schools and children,” Morris said. “It gives us all a chance to join in a healthy and colorful activity. Everyone is invited, and fun will be shared by all who attend.”

On the day of the Color-A-Thon, the first activity will be a walk/run for pupils up to fifth grade 9-9:45 a.m. At 10 a.m. there will be a run for students in sixth grade and above and all ages through adults.

Following the races, there will be a Color Blast Party to cap off the day for all of the participants and organizers, according to Morris, who said she is excited to raise money for the children and education.

“This is a fun and exciting new event that will be open not only to all three schools in Millstone, but to the community,” Morris said. “The proceeds will benefit our schools and students. Our goal is to raise as much as possible. We definitely would like to surpass $5,000, and it would be great to collect at least close to $10,000.”

Organizers of the event include PTSA Co-President Michele Stillwell, PTO Vice President Erin Wagner and PTO member Cyndie Bailey. They are working with Millstone Township Middle School Nurse Marianne Disick and middle school Athletic Director Joseph Muni. A 10-member committee is helping to coordinate the new event.

Morris believes the fundraiser is special because it will allow the community to work together to support education. Currently, the PTO/PTSA funds are spent to help cover expenditures such as electronics, assemblies, sports and fitness equipment, and some other classroom supplies.

“This is our fist communitywide fundraiser, which appeals to all ages and types of families,” she said. “We have the fun run for students and families with children under fifth grade, and then we have a course for our older and more serious runners. It promises to be a great day for all.

“All of the children in our community seem to enjoy the many events and activities we run. They appreciate the added assemblies, computers, educational programs and more that the PTO/PTSA is able to fund with all of the events we offer.”

All are welcome at the Color-A-Thon. Registration may be completed at shop.schoolathon.org/EventIndex.asp?EID =181254. The school code is 120081.
