Superintendent receives fellowship

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — Ross Kasun, the superintendent of schools in the Freehold Township K-8 School District, has been selected as one of 10 superintendents nationwide to participate in the Lexington Education Leadership Award (LELA) Fellowship.

According to material provided by Ali Ryan, the school district’s information and educational technology coordinator, “The Lexington Institute, a nonprofit public policy ‘think tank’ focused on education reform, is excited to announce that 10 outstanding leaders from across the country have been accepted into the first LELA Fellowship.

“The LELA Fellowship is an exciting six-month program designed to expose district superintendents to personalized learning and facilitate the first steps to implementation.”

The first fellowship class was selected from more than 50 applicants representing large and small school districts from across the country.

“Chosen for the strength of their vision, the existence of key conditions for success and their passion to implement personalized learning, the Lexington Institute is excited about the large-scale impact,” the materials state.

Kasun said he is extremely excited to have been selected for the LELA Fellowship.

“As one of 10 superintendents in the nation to receive this fellowship, I will receive professional development through an immersive experience and have the awesome opportunity to work with leaders to support our vision for digital and personalized learning,” Kasun said.

“Additionally, the LELA will give our district access to technical assistance, strategic resources and support to develop opportunities for digital and personalized learning.

“Being recognized for this award is truly a result of the efforts of our staff, administrators and the Freehold Township Board of Education, which has diligently set a technology plan that has our district ‘Future Ready.’ ”
