Temple Beth Ahm invites the community to take part in a celebration of Shavuot with an all-night program that will begin 8 p.m. May 23 and end 6 a.m. May 24 at 550 Lloyd Road, Aberdeen.
Early morning services will be held at 4:30 a.m. May 24 and include the chanting of the 10 Commandments from the Torah.
Shavuot marks the Jewish people’s receiving of the Torah at Mount Sinai.
“To commemorate our receiving the Ten Commandments and the rest of the Torah at Mount Sinai, there is a tradition to stay up all night to study Torah on the first night of the holiday,” said Rabbi Lisa Malik of Temple Beth Ahm in a press release. “This tradition is known as Tikkun Leyl Shavuot.”
Temple Beth Ahm has held Tikkun Leyl Shavuot since 2012. Sessions will be led by religious leaders and educators from various congregations and backgrounds. Children are invited to bring sleeping bags for a sleepover in the main sanctuary, with games and storytelling at midnight. This year, participants may choose from over 10 lectures and activities.
To register or learn more information, call 732-583-1700 or visit tbashavuot. eventbrite.com by May 18. Temple membership is not required.
