WEST WINDSOR: Candidates sought to fill vacancy left by resignation of council member

By Lea Kahn, Staff Writer
West Windsor Township officials are seeking candidates to fill a vacancy on Township Council, created by the resignation of council member Kristina Samonte.
Ms. Samonte, who was in the final year of her four-year term on Township Council, resigned effective Tuesday. She is moving out of West Windsor Township.
“I am extremely grateful to have served West Windsor residents as a Township Council member. It was a really rewarding experience,” Ms. Samonte said at the council’s Monday night meeting.
The replacement for Ms. Samonte would serve as an interim member of Township Council through Dec. 31. The interim member will be appointed at the council’s June 8 business meeting at the Municipal Building.
Applications are available on the West Windsor Township website or at the Municipal Building. The application should be returned to Township Clerk Sharon Young by May 26. Each candidate will be given a chance to make a short public presentation at the June 8 meeting, and to respond to council members’ questions.
The application seeks basic information that includes the applicant’s name and address, as well as contact information and educational background. It also asks for the length of time that the applicant has lived in West Windsor Township, plus the applicant’s employment and professional background.
And the application seeks comment from would-be Township Council members on their view of the top three principle issues facing West Windsor Township, and how they would address those issues.
For more information or to download an application, visit www.westwindsornj.org. The Municipal Building is open weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.
