Several local businesses will team up to host Safe Kids on the Go, a community event designed to raise car-seat safety awareness, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. May 16 at Toys R Us, Route 18, East Brunswick. Rain date is May 17.
The event will be hosted by Brunswick Memorial Home of East Brunswick, Toys R Us and Babies R Us in conjunction with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, and Safe Kids Middlesex County.
Parents are encouraged to arrive with their child already secured in his or her car seat. Professionals from Safe Kids will inspect the car seat and how it is installed and make sure the restraints are being used properly. Toys R Us will offer discounts to parents who participate in the event and also will donate car seats to be raffled off. Safe Kids will have free car seats available to families who qualify or cannot otherwise afford a proper restraint system.
The Care Team from Brunswick Memorial Home will distribute informational packets on the We Have a Little Emergency (WHALE) program, which provides first responders with information in the event of a motor-vehicle accident.
