EDISON — The Police Department will once again give residents the opportunity to have “Coffee with a Cop.”
Based on a concept developed by the Hawthorne Police Department in Hawthorne, California, the initiative has proved “very successful” in Edison, according to police.
“I am very excited to continue the ‘Coffee with a Cop’ initiative here in Edison,” Police Chief Thomas Bryan said. “I was very pleased with the interactions between myself, members of my command staff and the public during previous … sessions. I was particularly pleased with our ability to address the concerns of our residents, which in many cases were neighborhood or even street-specific.”
The initiative involves a community partnership between local businesses and the Police Department in which prearranged dates and times are established to host impromptu meetings between township police officers and the business patrons.
The meetings are designed to allow members of the Police Department’s command staff to answer questions or concerns raised by the public in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere, police said.
Safety brochures and handouts will also be available to anyone interested.
Along with having questions and concerns addressed, members of the public will also be able to enjoy a complimentary cup of coffee or beverage provided by the establishment, if they wish.
“Coffee with a Cop” events are set for 11 a.m.-1 p.m. May 28 at the Landmark Diner, 2066 Route 27; 8-10 a.m. June 5 at The Coffee House, 931 Amboy Ave.; 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. June 12 at Starbucks, 1-11 Lincoln Highway; and 12-2 p.m. June 18 at Chili’s, 1655 Oak Tree Road.
