SOUTH BRUNSWICK — The Board of Education celebrated the achievements of middle school students who were recognized by organizations outside of the school community at its May 18 meeting.
More than 100 students received certificates of merit. Some received up to five.
Jasmine Parekh and Aashika Parekh placed first in New Jersey in the VEX Robotics competition and qualified for the VEX World Championship.
The winners of the National Geographic Society Geography Bee were Praveen Parthasarathy and Rithvik Chekuri. Rithvik also placed third in the state.
The National Council of Teachers Promising Young Writers were Abhik Dutta, Vinayak Iyer, Venkatesh Narayan and Sara Rubiano. Finalists were Bryan Chen, Medha Gupta, Sisira Madapaka, Sahana Narayanan, Varun Rajesh and Vanessa Wish.
The winners of the first annual Crossroads Poets Competition were, North: first place, Ronaq Sahni; second place, Jessica Elil; and, third place, Saadhana Sridharan. South: first place, Sadhvi Mohankumar; second place, Karen Wang; and, third place, Nikhil Kapse.
Dhruvi Rajpopat’s artwork was chosen to be published in aMUSE, the magazine of the Arts Council of Princeton.
Up to 100 students auditioned for the regional bands and orchestras. These students were selected to participate in the Central Jersey Educators Association Region II Intermediate Band: Chirag Ballani, Advait Borkar, Shaurya Gunderia, Mehar Johal, Sidharsh Joshi, Ethan Ju, Shashwat Manicka, Jonathan Nye, Kedar Ram, Tej Ramaiah, Sabarinath Ramachandran, Sahaj Singh, Abha Thapar and Kabir Zama.
The students selected for the Central Jersey Music Educators Association Region II Intermediate Orchestra were Jeremy Chen, Michelle Jang, Deepti Narayanan, Abhishek Pandya and Praveen Parthasarathy.
Jeremy Chen was chosen to participate in the New Jersey Music Educators Association All-State Intermediate Orchestra.
The South Brunswick team placed seventh out of 25 in the central New Jersey Math Counts Competition. More than 200 students tried out for the team. These were the team members: Chirag Ballani, Thomas Chen, Mihir Laud, Shweta Murali, Dale Nacianceno, Venkatesh Narayan, Abhishek Pandya, Varun Rajesh, Tarang Srivastava, Danny Sun and Ria Tilve.
The Science Olympiad Team placed fourth regionally and third in the state. The competition included biology, earth science, physics and technology. Team members were Aryan Chakrabarti, Medha Gupta, Afash Haleem, Isuru Herath, Waiz Khan, Meghna Krishnamurthy, Anirudh Kumar, Shiven Kumar, Aman Mohapatra, Sameer Mustaqali, Srihith Narahari, Rohan Narayan, Sahana Narayanan, Abhishek Pandya, Jasmine Parekh, Rohil Sheth, Tarang Srivastava, Danny Sun, Adithya Swaminathan, Ria Tilve and Soham Warik.
The Academic Challenge Team competed in scholarship across all subjects. The sixth grade team took eighth overall in the region. The seventh graders took second place and the eighth graders took third and fourth place. 150 students tried out for the team. These were the team members: Luke Barglow, Omkar Chaubal, Rithvik Chekuri, Bryan Chen, Devankar Chhokra, Varad Deshpande, Methil Dudi, Isuru Herath, Sulphia Iqbal, Ashrith Iyer, Shreya Murthy, Abhishek Pandya, Praveen Parthasarathy, Jeffrey Paulraj, Vikrant Pulipati, Aadi Rane, Girish Sankrithi, Pragya Sharma, Sahaj Singh, Tarang Srivastava and Abha Thapar.
And, MS Special Olympics medal winners were David Forbes, Mason Goodman, Shitanshu Patel, Yash Patel, Bryant Peng and Hadi Veetti.
