The historic Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park is seeking adult volunteers to assist in many of its programs at the center on Christie Street in Edison. Opportunities are available for docents to greet and guide visitors through the facility, assist with the museum’s programs, and help with historic interpretive material.
The Thomas Edison Center is a hub of learning activities for thousands of students and adult visitors each year. Adults are needed to orient the learners to the museum, assist in hands-on activities and work in the museum store. Training is provided to all newcomers.
During a visit to the Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park, visitors are given a personal guided tour of the two-room museum. The Edison Memorial Tower, located on the site of Edison’s Menlo Park laboratory, will be rededicated on Oct. 24, and an increase in visitors is expected.
The tower, listed on the New Jersey and National Registers of Historic Places, is a majestic memorial to the moment when the “Wizard of Menlo Park” changed the world by creating the first practical incandescent lamp and 400 of his most important patented inventions.
