Volpe to be honored by YMCA

Friday, June 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. is a big day at TPC Jasna Polana for the Hopewell Valley YMCA’s Benefit Planning Committee.
The group has been working on its annual recognition and benefit event for more than five months.
The Spring Into Summer cocktail benefit will honor Phil Volpe, “The Cream King,” with the Larry Rothwell Social Responsibility Award.
The event’s format has been changed to a shorter cocktail party with hosted beverages and passed hors d’oeuvres, a TapSnap green screen photo booth and several surprises.
Proceeds are used by the YMCA to fund the operations of the Hopewell Valley Youth Activity Center for teens, local Special Olympic programming and provide financial assistance to families for programs such as dance, swimming lessons, youth sports, summer camps and before- and after-school care.
The Hopewell Valley YMCA hopes to raise $125,000 by the end of August.
Opportunities to purchase scholarships will be featured at the event. Suzette Belder-Carr, Annemarie Hofacker and Adriene Presti have used an ice cream theme to feature the scholarships at Friday’s affair.
Local design expert Andy Parsons has a real “treat” in store for guests. He has scooped up an impressive display.
President of the YMCA board of directors, Ryan Kennedy, said, “This is an important night for the Hopewell Valley YMCA. Our organization provides over $75,000 in direct financial assistance to local families with most of those funds dispersed in July and August for our summer day camp programs.”
More than $53,000 already has been committed to the benefit by local business sponsorships and individual pre-sale benefactor tickets.
Planning Committee Co-chairman Brogann Sanderson Bowden said, “We have garnered incredible support from local businesses, families and members of our board of directors. We truly appreciate the generosity of our donors. We expect this to be a really fun event and hope you will join us in celebrating Phil Volpe while also supporting the YMCA.”
Sponsors of Friday’s party include Tom and Patti Finn; Pennington Quality Market; Hopewell Valley Community Bank; Dahlia Floral Concepts; MercerMe; Hill Wallack LLP; Harmony Schools; Randy and Geri Bull; Cream King; Friends of John Cimino and Pringle Quinn Anzano LLP.
