Driver crashes car into pool

HOWELL — A relaxing day at a community pool took a turn for the worse when a motor vehicle crashed into the site on Memorial Day.

At 12:13 p.m. May 25, Howell police officers responded to emergency calls from individuals at the Point O’ Woods condominium and townhouse development on Bergerville Road.

Police said Wendy Greenhalgh, 64, of Howell, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima when she entered the pool’s parking lot and pulled into a parking space.

Police said Greenhalgh reported that she thought her car was in park, but it continued moving forward and went through a fence, through the area surrounding the pool and into the pool.

Greenhalgh was removed from her vehicle and the pool by individuals at the scene, according to police.

Several people were in and about the pool area at the time of the incident.

A 27-year-old woman was transported to a hospital with what police described as a minor leg injury. The woman’s infant child was transported with her for observation.

Police said Greenhalgh was charged with reckless driving, careless driving, driving across a sidewalk and driving on a sidewalk.

The car was removed from the pool by Taylors Towing and Heavy Hauling, Wall Township, which was called to the scene, Detective Sgt. Eileen Dodd said.

Dodd had no details regarding the extent of the damage that was done to the fence and the pool.

Assisting police at the scene were the Howell Police EMS, the Howell First Aid Squad and the Adelphia Fire Company. The crash was investigated by Officer Heather Scherbinski.
