SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A North Brunswick Township man was ticketed for careless driving after he lost control of his Lexus sport utility vehicle, causing it to hop the curb and careen down the sidewalk at the Summerfield Center shopping center June 5, according to the South Brunswick Township Police Department.
Ravi Narayanaswamy, 58, of North Brunswick Township, had parked his 2005 Lexus sport utility vehicle in front of the Bank of America at the shopping center, which is on the corner of Route 522 and Summerfield Boulevard, around 9:50 a.m. June 5.
The driver accidentally hit the gas pedal, causing the SUV to strike two parked cars, police said. The SUV then jumped the curb onto the sidewalk in front of the stores and struck the entrance to the Wine Gallery, police said.
The SUV continued down the sidewalk in front of the China Star restaurant and struck the wall in front of Nails and Spa, coming to rest after striking a support pillar in front of Giuseppe’s Pizza restaurant, police said.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle on his own, after it came to rest. He spoke to police, but he was not sure what caused him to lose control of the SUV.
The South Brunswick Township Code Enforcement office went to the Summerfield Center strip mall to inspect the buildings, and determined that they were structurally sound, police said.
