Historical association honors retired member

Employees, board members, volunteers and friends attended a reception to honor C. Glenn May, who recently retired after 30 years with the Monmouth County Historical Association.

The event was held May 12 at the Rumson home of Mark and Andrea Aikens; the former is a member of the association’s board of trustees.

President Linda Bricker served as the master of ceremonies. Representatives of the board, along with staff and volunteers, cited particular memories they held of their association with May and presented gifts commemorating his three decades of teaching thousands of visitors and schoolchildren about the American Revolution, historic Monmouth County homes and the Battle of Monmouth.

May received several notes of congratulations, including those from Gov. Chris Christie and Sens. Joseph Kyrillos and Jennifer Beck, according to the association.

Freeholder Lillian Burry presented a proclamation to May stating that the board of freeholders had resolved that May 12 was Glenn May Day in Monmouth County, according to the press release.

In honor of his service, the association created the C. Glenn May Legacy Fund, which will enable the organization to continue to present history to residents of Monmouth County through trunk shows, site tours and public programs, which May helped to establish.
