Travel back in time to the Battle of Monmouth.
The re-enactment battle will be fought June 20-21 to commemorate the June 28, 1778, battle. Hundreds of troops encamp at the park and recreate scenarios of the battle over the weekend. There are also numerous presentations, lectures and tours of the camps.
Two armies — the Continental Army and the British- German-Loyalist Army — will prepare for battle. Watch soldiers clean their muskets while their women prepare what may be their men’s last meal. Some officers may be drilling their men, some will plan for the battle, and others will play cards. If someone is accused of cheating, there may be a duel. Other events include horse drills, bayonet and musket drills, formations, marches and a Molly Pitcher program.
The re-enactment is held 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. June 20 and 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. June 21 at the Monmouth Battlefield State Park on Route 33 in Manalapan. All events are held or begin at the visitor center. A suggested donation of $10 per car is requested. Food will be available.
