Follow the example of ‘Doc’ Paterniti

This past Monday, the Edison Democratic Party reorganized and selected a new chairman. I know the new chairman well and am sure he will do a great job. However, if he does seek my advice, I will simply offer this to him: Emulate as best you can — Tom “Doc” Paterniti.

I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Doc for over 25 years on local, county and state issues. His loyalty, integrity, dedication and compassion are surpassed only by his amazing work ethic. As a mayor, assemblyman, state senator and now former chairman, Doc worked tirelessly to enact ordinances and laws that had a positive impact upon the lives of residents of Edison and throughout the state, as well.

During my time working for Edison, I was always comforted by the fact that at any time during the day or night, I could reach out to Doc for guidance and advice. His unending love for Edison, good government and politics were always abundantly clear in all of those calls. I truly believe that the residents of Edison are far better off today for having had the opportunity to call Doc mayor, assemblyman, senator and chairman.

I know that I am a far better person than I would be, because I get to call him a friend.

I want to thank Doc for his many years of incredible and unselfish commitment to public service and to the citizens of Edison. His record is remarkable, and his positive impact will be felt for years to come.

Be happy and healthy, Doc, and enjoy every day of your retirement. It is truly well-deserved.
