RED BANK — Improvements planned to Bridge Avenue on the borough’s west side will add a bicycle lane and make the roadway safer for pedestrians.
The Borough Council approved a resolution to seek bids for the improvements to Bridge Avenue at the June 10 meeting.
According to officials, a $250,000 state Department of Transportation grant will be used to fund improvements to a section of Bridge Avenue that runs from Chestnut Street to Drs. James Parker Boulevard.
According to Borough Engineer Christine Ballard, the improvements will include repaving the road, adding a bicycle lane, replacing sidewalks and trimming trees.
Ballard said the current state of the road is fair to poor, citing the numerous snowstorms over the past few years as a major factor that caused the road to deteriorate.
Part of the grant money will also be used to extend the parking lot in the municipal complex.
The borough has opened up the bidding process, which is expected to take a month. Construction on Bridge Avenue is slated to take another two to three months to be completed.
