CRANBURY: Downtown blooms thanks to community

CRANBURY — The beautification of the lampposts downtown is truly a community effort.
The Woman’s Club of Cranbury held a geranium sale in both the spring of 2014 and 2015 to provide hayrack baskets for Cranbury’s nine new lampposts.
To supplement the amount of money raised, the club gave each business owner in close proximity to a lamppost the opportunity to sponsor a basket through the donation of its cost to the Woman’s Club.
“The response was excellent,” club member Audrey Smith said.
Cranbury Pizza, David Wells Antiques, Teddy’s Restaurant, Studio 43 Hair Design, Dennis J. White, D.M.D, Sotheby’s Real Estate, Charmed by Claire and Brent Barlow of Barlow and Zimmer Funeral Home all sponsored baskets.
The Cranbury Township Public Works Department installed the baskets on May 26 and May 28, and Woman’s Club members Ms. Smith, Wendy Steele and Sue Westerberg, with the help of Master Gardener Lee Nissen, planted them with red, white and blue flowers. The business owners will care for the baskets.
“The Woman’s Club has received many compliments on the baskets and is pleased to have the opportunity to work on this project for Cranbury,” Ms. Smith said.
