Accident investigations continue

MILLSTONE – New Jersey State Police investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding two recent fatal motor vehicle accidents in Millstone Township.

Trooper Alina Spies said both accidents occurred in the afternoon — one on June 8 and a second on June 15 — near the intersection of Chambers Road and Stagecoach Road (Monmouth County Route 524).

The first fatal accident occurred just before 1 p.m. June 8 when Edward Billewicz, 58, of East Windsor, lost control of his 2014 Hyundai Tucson sport utility vehicle.

Police said Billewicz was traveling east on Stagecoach Road when his vehicle veered off the road and struck a tree on the westbound side of the street.

When troopers arrived at the scene, Billewicz was unresponsive. Spies said members of the Millstone EMS squad and MONOC paramedics responded to the accident. Billewicz was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:15 p.m.

One week later, just before 1:30 p.m. June 15, a second fatal accident occurred at the same location. Spies said Scott Hodder, 55, of Oceanport, was traveling west on Stagecoach Road in a 1967 BMW when his vehicle left the road, went through a grass berm and struck a tree. Emergency responders found Hodder unresponsive, and extricated him from the vehicle.

The Millstone Township Fire Department, the Hope Fire Company of Upper Freehold, the Allentown First Aid Squad and MONOC paramedics responded. Hodder was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spies declined to comment on the possible cause of either accident and said they remain under investigation.
