Student honored at Model Congress

PLUMSTED — Students from New Egypt High School recently attended a national debate competition at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Model Congress, in Philadelphia.

According to Plumsted Township School District administrators, 21 students spent months preparing for the competition, writing their own bills to be debated, amended and, hopefully, passed, during the mock congress.

“As the club adviser for nine years, I am always proud of the effort made by our students,” said Jennifer Papp Luciani, Model Congress adviser and a teacher at New Egypt High School.

“This year, junior Winona Frances Platt was recognized with an award in her committee, Ways and Means. Winona was willing to take on opposing arguments when others were not, which earned her the respect of her committee chair people as well as her fellow committee members,” Luciani said.
