Hospital has health education programs

Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, will present community health education programs in July. All programs will meet at the hospital unless otherwise noted.

 “Camp Jinka” will be offered from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each weekday through July 24 at the Middletown Arts Center, 36 Church St., Middletown. Camp Jinka is a free summer day program for children and teens whose lives have been impacted by a loved one’s diagnosis of a brain tumor.  “Qi-Gong” will be held from 1-2 p.m. on July 9, 16, 23 and 30 at the Cancer Support Community Meeting Room ST-007. Maxine Guenther will show how Qi-Gong techniques can restore balance and re-establish the body/mind/spirit connection by integrating physical postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.  “Restorative Yoga” will be held on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. on July 14, 21 and 28 or Thursdays at 11 a.m. on July 16, 23 and 30 at the Cancer Support Community Meeting Room ST-007. The program is for anyone who has been affected by a cancer diagnosis. Registration is required for this free program by calling 732-923-6090.

 “Bipolar Disorder” for adults age 60 and older will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. July 16 at the Howell Senior Center, 251 Preventorium Road, Howell. Learn about this complicated disorder and current treatment options. Registration is required for this free program by calling 732-938-4500, ext. 2554.

 “Safe Sitter” for babysitters age 11-13 will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. July 25 at the hospital. The program will teach attendees how to handle emergencies and show them how to be responsible and creative. The cost of the program is $50 per child. To register, call 732-923-6992.

 “Choose Your Cover: Free Skin Cancer Screenings” will be held from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. July 25 under a tent on the Great Lawn by the Long Branch boardwalk. An appointment is not necessary.
