HILLSBOROUGH: JK Design awards two scholarships to arts students

Advertising agency JK Design recently awarded $1,000 scholarships and trophies to two graduating seniors at Hillsborough High School.
For the third year, agency owners Jerry and Barbara Kaulius presented the awards at the school’s Senior Night Award Ceremony.
Alyssa Concannon received the award for excellence in graphic design; the three designs she submitted were judged by the agency’s art directors. This fall she will study animation at the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, and hopes to one day work on television cartoons.
“I began doing graphic design for the high school award a few years ago, and this award really validates my work,“ said Alyssa. “It was a great surprise to find out that a team of designers thought my work was worthy of winning!“
JK Design’s video team selected Anais De Los Santos for the award for excellence in video and film, based on a short film she created. She will attend the San Francisco Art Institute in the fall.
“I’m more confident than ever about my goal to make art films that evoke an emotional response,“ said Anais.
“As we celebrate our 30th year in business — and our 10th in our Hillsborough offices — we are so pleased to be able to continue supporting our local high school students,“ said Jerry Kaulius, JK Design’s founder and chief creative officer.“These awards would not be possible without the HHS faculty, in particular advanced video and film instructor James Arndt and graphic arts instructor James Schoof,“ said Barbara Kaulius, co-owner and chief financial officer at JK Design. “The time and effort they put into their work enables their students to realize their true potential, and to have the confidence to submit their work for review by our professional artists.“
JK Design’s headquarters is in Hillsborough’s historic Staats House. The agency also has an office in midtown Manhattan, NYC.
