LAWRENCE – Laura Tineo, 22, of Brooklyn, N.Y., was charged with three counts of forgery and two counts of theft by deception for passing counterfeit $100 bills at stores at the Quaker Bridge Mall, according to police Detective Sgt. Joseph Lech IV.
Police responded to the mall at 3:49 p.m. June 24 after the store manager at Spencer’s Gifts called the Police Department to report that a woman was attempting to purchase merchandise with what appeared to be a counterfeit $100 bill, Sgt. Lech said.
The bill was determined to be counterfeit, he said. She had purchased items at two other stores at the mall with fake bills. Subsequent to her arrest, she was also found to be in possession of less than 50 grams of marijuana.
She was taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center on $30,000 bail with a 10-percent option.
