The Hopewell Valley Baseball/Softball Association’s 11U Bulldogs defeated host North Trenton, 15-1, in four innings on July 4 at MLK Park to complete a two-game sweep and win the Cal Ripken, District One 46/60 championship.
The Bulldogs jumped on top quickly with four runs in the first on an RBI double by Michael Boyer and sacrifice flies by Dominic Yarson and Tyler Hersh. Hopewell put it away with a 10-run explosion in the second, including an RBI triple by Yarson and RBI single by Christopher Del Vecchio.
Jay Swindell got on base three times and scored three runs, while Del Vecchio shut down North Trenton while he was on the mound, giving up two hits, no earned run, and striking out six in three innings.
In game one, Hopewell defeated North Trenton 18-3, scoring all its runs in the first three innings. Christopher Del Vecchio led the charge with three hits and three RBI, and Atticus Jamison and Dominic Yarson shut down the North Trenton offense with a combined three-hitter and nine strikeouts.
HV earned a first round bye in the SNJ State Tournament and will face the winner of Washington Township/Mount Laurel game in Mount Laurel this Saturday, July 17 at 6 p.m.
