HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP: Two-car crash on Route 31 takes one driver’s life, seriously injures the other

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — A two-car collision on Route 31 resulted in the death of one driver and serious injuries for the other on July 16.
Police responded to the crash scene at 6:05 p.m. to find that a Honda Accord, driven by 76-year-old Harry Foster of Ewing, and a Volvo S60, driven by 63-year-old Elaine Rudolph of Egg Harbor, had collided on Route 31 south near county Route 612, also know as Marshall Corner Woodsville Road.
Mr. Foster was removed from his Honda and taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Pennington First Aid Squad and paramedics from Capital Health. He was pronounced dead later at the hospital, police said.
Ms. Rudolph was also taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center by the Hopewell Fire Department Emergency Medical Unit with paramedics from Capital Health System. Her injuries were listed as serious, according to police.
Police said that that Mr. Foster was traveling south along Route 31 and Ms. Rudolph was traveling north. For an unknown reason the Honda Accord driven by Mr. Foster crossed the center line and struck the Volvo, police reported.
Route 31 was closed for approximately two hours between Route 612 and Route 654. Traffic was detoured around the crash scene.
The crash is being investigated by Officer James Hoffman, Detective Mike Sherman, and Detective Don Santora of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Pennington Fire Company, Hopewell Fire Department, Union Fire Company and Hopewell Valley Emergency Services were also dispatched to the scene. 
