CRANBURY: Site names town a top 10 beauty

By Jennifer Kohlhepp, Managing Editor
The Culture Trip named Cranbury one of the 10 most beautiful towns in New Jersey.
The website with the tagline “the best of art, culture, food and travel” noted that New Jersey is one of the most densely populated states in the USA and might not be a place to spring to mind when thinking of quintessential small town America but went on to say that the Garden State is brimming with charming communities just waiting to be explored.
Along with Cranbury, the Culture Trip named Cape May, Lambertville, Collingswood, nearby Allentown, Spring Lake, Clinton, Frenchtown, Red Bank and Chester as the 10 most beautiful towns the site’s writershave visited in New Jersey.
“I am very thankful to the culturetrip.com for recognizing Cranbury,” Mayor James “Jay” Taylor said. “While I certainly have always felt this way about Cranbury, it is great to get the validation from independent outside sources.”
The article described Cranbury as “nestled amongst the gently rolling farmland of New Jersey’s Middlesex County,” with roots dating back to the late 17th century; the township is one of the state’s oldest settlements.
“It was during the 18th century that Cranbury started to expand, and several inns built during this time still stand — including the Cranbury Inn built in 1780,” the article stated. “This feature established the township as an important rest stop between New York City and Philadelphia. Today, its rich history is beautifully preserved — almost all of the village is listed on the National Register of Historic Places — while the Brainerd Lake and Village Park are the setting for summer concerts.”
“Recognition such as this rewards the hard work the volunteers from the beautification subcommittee, business association, Woman’s Club and Historical Society have put in to redevelop the downtown,” the mayor said. “It is really through their efforts that Cranbury has evolved over the last few years to become a destination town in the state as recognized by both this travel site and nj.com.”
Culturetrip.com is a one-stop digital platform for global culture and lifestyle, with nearly 2 million monthly readers, according to the website. People from all over the globe browse the wealth of local and global cultural recommendations and knowledge that the site offers, according to the site, which won UK Website of the Year Award for Arts and Culture (2014) and was named one of 25 UK Tech Companies to Watch UK (2013); and a Top Travel and Arts Site by The Guardian/The Times (2012).
