Monroe Township Recreation Department’s annual Fishing Derby will be held from 9 a.m. to noon (rain or shine) at the lake in Thompson Park. The derby is open to Monroe residents. Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children of Mercer County is currently seeking new volunteers. CASA is a nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers who speak up in Family Court for the best interests of children who have been removed from their families due to abuse and/or neglect and placed in the foster care system. The Helene Cody Cranbury 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk will start at 8:15 a.m. This is an annual event held in memory of Helene Cody, a Cranbury resident who passed away on her 16th birthday. This is also the major fundraiser for the Helene Cody Foundation, which inspires youth to volunteer to better their communities and themselves. Food Pantry: The Rise Food Pantry is open 52 weeks a year from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and from 5 to 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of each month. Baby care items, personal products and all nonperishable and perishable food items are needed for local families. The pantry welcomes locally grown fruits and vegetables. Food can be donated directly to the pantry at 225 Franklin St., Hightstown, during operating hours or to the Greater Goods Thrift Store, 114 Rogers Ave., Hightstown.
