HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP — Two people were injured in a two-car crash Thursday, Aug. 6, at 5:58 p.m. that closed Route 579 south of Route 546 for approximately two hours.
Hopewell Township Police reported that a Ford Taurus driven by John Lehet, 79, of Titusville, was traveling southbound on Route 579 when for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and collided with a northbound Toyota driven by Meryl Bisberg, 63, of Hillsborough.
Mr. Lehet was removed from his vehicle and transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with a chest injury. Ms. Bisberg was removed from her vehicle and also transported to Capital Health Regional Medical Center with chest and arm injuries.
Hopewell Valley Emergency Services, paramedics from Capital Health System and the Pennington First Aid Squad responded to the scene. Traffic was detoured around the accident.
Mr. Lehet was recently in the news when, while walking his Yorkshire terriers in his Titusville neighborhood in July, a pit bull broke away from its owner, Joshua Cintron, and attacked and killed one of the terriers.
The crash is being investigated by Officer Mandy Grey, Detective Mike Sherman and Detective Anthony Albano of the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. Mr. Lehet was issued a summons for failure to keep right.
