RED BANK— Red Bank is warming up to celebrate its love affair with its iconic river as it awaits the arrival of the annual Paddle the Navesink Day .
“[This is a] community wide celebration of the Navesink River and showcases the maritime history and recreational opportunities that are available along the Navesink River in Red Bank,” according to a press release from Navesink River Rowing (NRR), which sponsors the event.
On Sept. 12, NRR will be the host to the 5th Paddle the Navesink Day at Maple Cove, which is located at the foot of Maple Avenue. The event is slated to run from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m.
“I think Paddle the Navesink Day is a wonderful event because, number one it’s free, number two it gives people an opportunity to get into the river, which is why a lot of people moved here,” said Councilwoman Cindy Burnham.
“We also love this event because it promotes the Red Bank waterfront and all the opportunities it has to offer for children and adults.”
There will be a variety of events, meant to give residents access to the river.
Kayaks and paddleboards will be available for those attending to event to try and use under the supervision of a certified instructor, according to the press release.
Groups will also be on hand to share information about the history of the river as well as the ecology of the area.
The Navesink Rowing Club, which is located across from Maple Cove, will also serve as the host to an open house that will include rowing demonstrations.
The Red Bank Library, which is adjacent to Maple Cove, will be the host to a bake sale and books sale.
NRR suggests that those going to event should take advantage of parking lots located off Front, White and Monmouth streets.
The event is planned to take place rain or shine.
