Band raising funds for local charities

LONG BRANCH — Joe Hughes and his band, Goldenseal, are musicians on a mission, assisting local charities and causes through their musical talents.

The band will perform from 7-9 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Thursdays by the Sea concert series at Pier Village in Long Branch. Proceeds will benefit the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation. A 50-50 raffle will also be held to support the Long Branch Festival.

“It’s great to be able to use music to help charitable organizations in the area,” said Hughes in a press release. He is a West Long Branch resident and formed the band in 1999.

Goldenseal is named after an herbal supplement, which is thought to boost immunity levels. Hughes said he thought the name was appropriate because he wanted to perform music that is uplifting and leaves the listener with positive feelings.

Other Goldenseal performances include a fundraising Wine Tasting and Reception from 6-8 p.m. Sept. 25 at Four JG’s Vineyards in Colts Neck to benefit the Legal Aid Society of Monmouth County.

Goldenseal will also perform at 8 p.m. Oct. 30 at the Women’s Club of Red Bank, 164 Broad St., Red Bank. Proceeds will benefit the Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation’s scholarship program.
