Concert will benefit food bank

On the evening of Aug. 26, the plaza in front of the Monmouth County Hall of Records in Freehold Borough will again be filled with great music, good times and the family and friends of Bill Heine when the second annual Hope for the Hungry concert takes place.

Performing from 7:30-9:30 p.m. will be Turnstyles, a local band known for its exceptional versions of classic Billy Joel, Elton John and Bruce Springsteen songs.

The concert is free, but attendees are encouraged to bring a nonperishable item for donation to benefit the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties. The rain date is Aug. 28, according to a press release.

Downtown Freehold, which promotes events in the county seat, has teamed up with the family and friends of Bill Heine to create a special evening of music and good food in his memory. Bill, who passed away suddenly in 2012, had been Monmouth County’s chief spokesman and director of public information from 2005-12.

In 2014, Bill’s Family and Friends Fighting Hunger, or BFF’s Fighting Hunger, worked with Downtown Freehold to add this event to the summer concert schedule.

“This concert helps continue Bill’s involvement with the food bank,” said Beth Heine, Bill’s wife. “I am proud to honor his memory by mixing his enthusiasm for music and food with time spent with our family and friends.”

Representatives of the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties will be on hand at the event to accept food donations and monetary donations.

The food bank is the primary provider of food and other resources to a network of 300 feeding programs in Monmouth and Ocean counties. One out of 10 residents – including 51,000 children – receives emergency food from the food bank, according to the press release.
