JAR of Hope will attempt to set record

MANALAPAN — JAR of Hope philanthropy has confirmed that Guinness World Records will be on hand on Aug. 23 when the foundation attempts to become the new world record holder for most people doing push-ups at one time, a mark that currently stands officially at 615 people.

The event is open to the public.

“Having Guinness involved makes this event even more profound,” said James Raffone, the founder of JAR of Hope.

“We hope everyone sees how committed JAR of Hope is to breaking this record. Most importantly, we want to show all of the kids around the world who suffer from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy how much we are committed to them and to raising awareness for this disease,” he said.

JAR of Hope was created by Raffone in 2013 after his young son, Jamesy, was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. The foundation is seeking a cure for the muscle wasting disease that has about 300,000 worldwide cases.

The Aug. 23 event,Strength in Numbers,” will take place at the Manalapan Recreation Center, 120 Route 522, Manalapan, with festivities getting underway at 10 a.m. (registration begins at 9:30 a.m.).

All attendees will have the opportunity to interact with professional athletes who will be speaking about topics such as recruiting, training and fundamentals.

The two title sponsors for Strength in Numbers” are FrogBridge Day Camp in Millstone Township and Pazzo Restaurant in Red Bank.
