Monmouth Museum hosts Juried Photography Exhibition

Marilyn M. Baldi (Tinton Falls), “When Life Gives You Lemons,” Photography, 2011 Marilyn M. Baldi (Tinton Falls), “When Life Gives You Lemons,” Photography, 2011 A new exhibition of photographs is on view at the Main Gallery of the Monmouth Museum, Lincroft, through Oct. 28. The Juried Photography Exhibition features works that represent the breadth and diversity of expression in contemporary photography.

Sixty-five artworks were selected for the exhibition, representing artists from the tristate area and across the country who utilized a wide a variety of photographic media, from traditional black and white images to color photographs, digital prints, and alternative processes.

Exhibition juror is Donald Lokuta, distinguished professor at Kean University, Union, where he teaches photography in the Fine Arts Department. Lokuta’s career as a photographer, painter, teacher, historian and author spans more than 30 years. He states: “For me, the photographs were varied and very interesting to explore. The successful photographs were about how each person saw their world. And great photographs are not a matter of fact but impression. The best artists in this exhibition not only captured what they saw, but also showed us something about how they see. I am not interested in gimmicks or about small ideas. That may be interesting at the moment, but not for much longer. A good work of art must be provocative and more psychological than what is shown. Great art is eternal!”
