 The Jackson Library, 2 Jackson Drive, Jackson, will host Lawrence Hogan of Union County College, and Jim Robinson, a veteran of the Negro Leagues, in a presentation of “Blackball,” which explores the black part of the national pastime during America’s era of segregation.  The Jackson Rotary Club is sponsoring a bus trip to the Golden Nugget casino, Atlantic City, on Sept. 27. The cost of $32 includes bus transportation, lunch and beverages on the bus, $25 in slot play from the casino, a $5 dinner coupon and a gratuity for the bus driver.  The next meeting of American Legion Post 504 will be held at the Knights of Columbus hall, 401 Bartley Road, Jackson, at 7 p.m. Sept. 9. All wartime-era veterans in the area are invited to join in providing service to local veterans and their families. Honorably discharged veterans, along with those veterans from World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Lebanon-Grenada, Panama or the Gulf War/War on Terrorism are eligible.  The Veterans Community Alliance of New Jersey will host a day at the races to help veterans on Sept. 20 at Monmouth Park, Oceanport.  The Friends of the Plumsted Township Library, 119 Evergreen Road, New Egypt, will collect books on the first Saturday of the month (Sept. 5) from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April through October for future book sales. Fiction, nonfiction, large print, children’s books, CDs, DVDs, audio books and jigsaw puzzles are accepted. Do not donate soiled or mildewed items. Videotapes, Readers Digest condensed books, magazines and encyclopedias are not accepted. Drop books off behind the Plumsted Township Library. Do not leave items if no one is present.
